Informative Archaeological Imaging With Small Drones

This work aided Kent Archaeological Society in generating excavation views for analysis, record and publication use. Views include orthonormal, elevation, three-dimensional and excavation progress time lapse recordings.

Resulting publications/presentations include AARG International Conference, York, UK, 2024

Orthonormal view of Neolithic site excavation, Lees Court Estate, Kent, UK, 2024.

The site size, including boundary, is about 50 metres on its long axis.

Orthonormal view was generated with WebODM from ca. 200 overlapping nadir drone images (each 4032 x 3024 pixels) taken at 6 metre mean altitude.

Orthonormal view is over 24000 pixels across, with a ground resolution of 2mm/pixel, the original therefore suitable for overview and zoomed detail examination.
